Mel Allen, the legendary announcer and voice of the Yankees through the 40s, 50s and 60s first coined the term “Ballantine Blast”. Ballantine Blast signified a Yankees home run and became a popular expression that is still remembered today.
Steinbrenner said, “Mel Allen meant as much to Yankee tradition as legends like Ruth, Gehrig, DiMaggio, and Mantle”
We’re proud to bring back this tradition with John Sterling announcing the first Yankee home run of each game as the Ballantine Blast.
